Parma has become the "Unesco Artistic City of Gastronomy". It is the first in Italy to have received this honorable mention.
Parma and the typical products of the Food Valley, well-known, appreciated and sought all over the world obteined Unesco recognition. The city of Emilia officially received the title of "Unesco Artistic City of Gastronomy", becoming the first to represent Italy in the food sector.
In fact in the past Bologna, Turin and Fabriano entered in the Artistic cities of Unesco network, repectively for music, design and folk art.
Parma instead, with its quality products as Parmigiano and Parma Ham represents the gastronomy, getting into Unesco list which already considers over 60 cities of 32 different countries.
According to the Mayor Federico Pizzarotti: "This recognition increaeses the international side of Parma and can open new developments for our economy, especially in relation to tourism. This is also the confirmation that the the future of Parma and pronvinces concerns firstly of all the valorization of its products of excellence and the capacity to transform them into food.I'm sure that, if we will be able to make the best use of this recognition, Parma will be known around the world also as city of art and excellences, full of traditions and history, which it's preparing to celebrate its early 2.200 years of life".
